The Purple Scarf
Re-posting this on my blog, in memory of Arya Anwesha.
This story does not resemble any real life character or place, whatsoever.
It was friendship day. And the famous girl gang of the neighborhood was out celebrating the bond that kept them together. Friendship. To add icing to the cake, there was an entry of a stranger, a guy. A Cute guy, I must say! A gang of hot girls and a cute guy. What more can I say? And that too, a kind that is very rare- a guy reading a book! Unaware of the distraction he was causing, he walked on the roads. Such people are probably the reason for 30% of the major road accidents in the world. Well, the girls followed him like how chicks follow their....mother (I’m talking about hens for god's sake. What did you think I was gonna say?). However, he seemed to ignore the otherwise-much-craved-for-attention. It continued for a distance. After a while, the guy sat on a bench in the park, still not bothering to react to all the hooting and whistling. And that too, by a bunch of girls. Hot girls, mind you! Unfortunately, the girls lost him, finally and unexpectedly. He was like this sudden gush of pleasant breeze that came for a split second and left. This was long forgotten.
It was Ethnic day at one of the girl, Maria (or mARYA. C’mmon, it’s a pronoun. And oops, I hit the caps lock key accidentally. Please ignore that.)’s college six months later. She wanted a purple scarf that went with her tunic. She asked all her friends. Hi friend, bye friend, eating friend, chatting friend, dancing friend, gay friend, girl friend(s) and buddy friends (if you know kannada, note the pun :P). NOBODY had it. Just when she was going to give up, her mother came to her rescue. She had borrowed it from one of her friend. Happily, Maria accepted it. After the occasion, she had to return it. She found out the address from her mother and walked to the house.
She rang the bell. The bell that changed her life. There was a slight breeze and the folded scarf unfurled. As the door opened slowly, the scarf flew from her hand on to the face of the person who was behind the door. There was a strange tingling feeling going through Maria. She was surprised at her own stupid heart that missed a beat when she moved her hand on the face to remove the scarf. She felt the contours of the perfectly sculpted face as she removed it. Her wonder turned to excitement and then to happiness. The man behind the door was none other than the very much admired, cute guy. She smiled. So did he.
End of story. The rest is left to your imagination.
